After doing dataloging my friend found out the knock sensor in Zetec VCT motors(not sure about non-vct) pulls timing because of how hard the head vibrates.

The spike at 6k is caused by that, at 6k the PCM stops paying attention to the sensor and the timing gets thrown back in:


Since Zetecs(least vct ones) rarely knock under boltons or just mild head/cam work you can unplug the knock sensor to get some more timing. On his ZX2 he loged that the sensor was pulling -6 degrees.

with the SCT PRP you can program around that.

You're right...WTF was I thinking, 700 bucks for the most complete easiest to use tuning solution for my vehicle

hmm guy wants to make a little more power on a budget whats he gona do? spend 700? or pull a plug?

most ford owners are gonna pull a plug


Hell im running a fully retuned PCM, I dont own PRP OR xcal..I spent $50 on a pcm from a junk yard and had my friend w/ xcal and the same code flash it.

Weird never had a problem like that at 6k.

Depends on how ford calibrated your car stock, some ZX2's have it , others dont, others have it not so much.

Comes down to how ford programed your PCM.

I guess that works out for me last time I had my CEL check it said the knock sensor was dead....
