OP zetecpower CEG\'er Z Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 109	Hey guys as you already know most pre 98 contours run hot. My 2.0 DOHC 1996 tour runs hot but does not over heats. Can someone give me a suggestion on how to make my car run cooler.At what temp Stock thermostat opens? bc i hear that you can get lower temp one and that would help alot. Please help me out if you had this problem b4. thanks guys My 95 runs very cool Around r/m in NORMAL I have replaced the thermostat (i believe the stock thermostat is 195 F) i bought the 180 F Stunt Thermostat. You might try flushing the cooling system (im fixing to) One thing though if i turn off the a/c and fan turns off my temp goes up to the A on the gauge especially if im sitting at a drive thru or parking lot. on the road generally goes up to M without a/c on. so what i do is turn a/c on and cools it down real quick like 95 contour 2nd owner Miles: 98,800 Transmission: Automatic Engine: Zetec 4 Cylinder 2.0L Significant Problems: Wiring Harness (cracking!!)

DESIGN CEG\'er D Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 367 Texas	When you do a flush and fill do 60 percent water and 40 percent anti-freeze vs the common 50/50 mix. A higher percentage of water equals lower temperatures. Added to that Redline's water wetter (you can get it at Pepboys and many other retail stores). This additive reduces the surface tension of water and effectively allows the water to cool better. On a side note, if you have a car that is running higher temps than you are comfortable with and have an auotmatic then I highly recomend a secondary transmission cooler. The stock system uses the radiator to cool the transmission. If that is not working as well as you like then running the second cooler will protect your transmission since it is more prone to damage from heat. At the very least keep the tranny fluid fresh. To protect your engine from heat damage switch to synthetic oil (mobile one). If you are not comfortable with that at least use a slightly heavier oil durring the summer. And yes, running the AC forces both fans to operate and cools the engine better.

OP zetecpower CEG\'er Z Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 109	thanks guys i went and got the 180 degree thermo and hot water wetter and now my car runs much better and the temp level is in n/o in normal. thanks a bunch does 1996 contour gl comes with a LOW FUEL light on the dash? i never had one light on me b4. will speedometer from mystic with tachtometer work on out 1996 tours? or should i get one from v6 contour? 1996 GL 2.0 16V Zetec DOHC AIM s/n- DJWhiterussian

Yes, as long as the mystique is a zetec. V6 clusters will not work. And if you install a higher degree to make it war up faster. Will still heat up at the same rate, its operating temp will just be higher. I dont see the point in doing that and I have been around cars a long time. Have it run cooler, can do lots of negative things. but hey you heard someplace on the new to do it, and your set in your ways so thats cool to.
