Is there a way to check exactly what your timing is set on besides pulling the valve cover and making sure everything is lined up? I installed a new timing belt with new tensioner and idlers. Used all the right tools lined the cams up got the cam to TDC. There are no notches on the crank pulley. The car runs good starts right up, but sometimes there is a slight hesitation when you hit the gas. Just need to know if the timing can be checked while the car is running. It is the Zetec 2.0L with the VCT.

There is no way to check the mechanical timing. I recomend OTC tool number 6486 and gates timing belt kit when doing the VCT engines (or any zetec for that matter) the tool locks both crank and cam inplace and is well worth the 20 bucks. Sorry there is no easy way, your going to have to open it back up and redo the timing job if you suspect it being the problem. PM me if you need any help.
