do you think it would be worth getting a smashed up '02 taurus just for the 3L? I would pay 4-500 for it and have to find someway to tow it back to my place.
This way I could have the engine and extras like starter/ac/alt etc, gut the interior and anything else that is in good condition and sell it. then I need to get rid of the leftover frame... is it worth the effort?

Whether it's worth the effort is up to you. We don't know how much free time you have, what tools you have, etc. As far as the price goes, I think it's worth it.

Thats the only way to do it! Then again I have access to a little shop w/ plenty of room to store junkers until you have finished w/ them, & trailers, & dollies. So you have to factor all of those things into the equation before you start planning.
I don't "mod" I just fix what breaks!

If you have a place to store both the junker & your car while you're working on it, then yeah, good price. If your neighbors have to stare at a gutted frame & parts layin' around, don't do it. Buy the car, pull the engine & give the hulk away to a junkyard on Monday.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

it has around 5,000 which is really why I'm considering it. I have a garage I can tear it apart in (no air tools though) but there's not much space to work in. My main concern is how to transport it, rent something from u-haul?

If U-haul is an option, sure. Rent a pickup & a tow dolly for a couple of hours. You might be able to sweet talk them into a 1/2 day rental rate if you smile a lot & bring along some eye candy.
