so the motor has been in the car for a while and I am just finishing my build....I used assembly lube on everything pretty well and roatated the bolck by hand when it was torn down (everything has been replaced, all machine work verfified and done)
SHould I turn it over by hand a couple times first? SPray fogging oil in the cylinders?? Are there any other precautioanry measures I can take for the initial start up?

Pull the plug on the coil pack and let it turn over for a good 60 seconds to prime the oil pump.

I was planning on that, I was thinking about it sitting for so long...like 5-6 months. I thought about anti fogging oil used for boats to give the cylinders a little lube...but I am not sure if it neccesary.

...as well as...
Pushing the pedal to the floor to shut off the injectors.
Run the starter in 15-20 second bursts. This lets it briefly cool down.

Good point, never thought about destroying my starter...

I imagine you COULD burn out the motor running it for 60 seconds without a break. Granted I did this before without an issue, but...

Is your logic???
The starter is a high speed, high torque electric motor with no cooling ability. It is designed to run for a very brief period to start the vehicle. (5-10 seconds) When you constantly run the starter it will overheat and that can damage the brushes and rotor.
Does it happen every time? No. Should you ignorantly test it to see which time it will fail? Hmmm... For example your car will run without oil in it but IMNSHO that is not a good thing to test out either. Wouldn't one agree?
