I've read through the difficulty shifting notes and comments, and did perform the transaxle drain and refill (Valvoline MERCON V with the Ford friction modifier) with no change. When I drive my 00 SVT Contour (with a B&M shifter) for 10 minutes or less, park it, shut it off, then restart (after varying time spans) it wont shift into any forward gear or reverse. I'm not sure the term peanut butter applies, it won't go into any gear. After moving the shifter around, pulling and releasing the reverse lock out, putting the clutch in and out, etc. it occasional will shift into a forward gear, but still not reverse. After more rowing around it finally pops right into reverse, forward gears, just fine. Suggestions based on experience would be welcome. I feel Ive reached the sell it quick point.

Start with the easy stuff. Shift cables and the ends that connect to the shift tower. Either worn or out of adjustment.

I know the B&M is supposed to be a good shifter, but I had similar problems with my escort with an ebay shifter. No problems now with a kartboy.
