I have read a couple of posts that mention cleaning the EGR ports of carbon. Is this also a common problem on the Zetec. I'm in process now of changing my timing belt, among many other things. I have 174,000 miles on this car with the AT being the only major repair (135,000 miles). I have lived with a CEL for probably two years. It idles a little rough and occasionally will die at a stop. Since it is a 95 I do not remember exactly what the code was on the OBDI code reader. I would really like to get rid of this light. Any ideas? I am doublting it is my EGR valve. I have heard mention of the IAC valve.

My timing belt has 115,000 miles on it, and believe it or not did not even look at all bad.

the egr ports are normally an issue on the duratec. Double check the code but iac sounds like it could be the issue. how are the plugs and wires? maybe the timing was a bit off at idle.

I changed the plugs also. It may have been a bad idea but I went to bosch platium 2's for plugs. The wires could be changed again. Could this cause a CEL? When you say timing, do you mean cam timing, or ignition timing?

My valve cover gasket was leaking. I spilled a little oil down the #1,2 cylinders. Hopefully it will just smoke a while after I start it. I hope it was not enough to keep it from starting.

I am going to put it back together tonignt I hope if nothing else comes up.

To set up the cams I just come up with a enough shims to get .200 inch. I do not know why such a big deal is made of this. I thought it was pretty straight forward. I did not lock them like I should have. The front cam moved, so I had to make sure the were right. I have not tryed to start yet so I should not knock on wood yet.

Next time you get plugs, get the Autolite. IIRC our ignition systems are picky about the type of plugs you put in them.

Sometimes it can. If they need to be changed - change 'em! I know where you can get a good set cheap...

Since it's a 95, you can read the codes with a paperclip. No scanner required.

Really need the actual code(s) for both KOEO and KOER tests to prevent wasting time and money.
