Well, I was going to wait till i was done, but that apparently isn't going to be till 2080 sometime... so here's progress...

God only knows what i was thinking listening to Newman, but the front 3 channels are around 6' tall and 1' wide and the rears are 3' x 1'. 324 total speakers in the room, 160 4" drivers, 160 1" tweets, 4 15" subs in a 9.5' x 5.5'x 1' platform (boom...). 7 Behringer A500 amps, 1 samson S1000, 3 Behringer Ultracurve 2940's, Outlaw Audio 970 7.1 receiver, Sanyo PLV-Z3 HD 720 Native projector onto 97.5" GooSystems painted screen...

Oh, and room is 17.5' x 9.5'. Bye bye good hearing! I've also got 7 Berkline 088 recliners coming...

Somebody apparently doesn't care for overkill. You should hear the clarity at painful levels.

line arrays have a number of advantages. When you double the distance from the driver, they drop off by 3 dB rather than 6 dB. They also have extreme efficiency in this case, meaning very little power is needed to get to painfully loud levels. That means they don't have to do much work to produce the output because of all the surface area which results in lower compression and distortion. Even if you used a horn driver with the same efficiency, at 4m ( the approximate listening distance in his room), it would take 4x as much power for the horn to produce the same output. Get the volume level up a bit, and the compression will reduce the efficiency even more with the horn.

Also, the design of the front and center channels minimize reflections off adjoining surfaces.

Plus, he does whatever i tell him to do.

No,
I am a big fan of overkill. I was just wondering if there was an actual accustic reason for doing it, other then the 'cool as hell' factor. Thanks for the answer guys, was just wondering.

very clean looking-- when i have my own house i'm definetly setting up a nice system for whatever i need-- too bad mitsubishi tv's aren't top notch--

the setup would look killer without all the extra star wars stuff
