Hello Folks, Pardon the NEWBIE question (ie: pls don't flame me!)
I have a 96 GL-Sport 5-speed 2.0L with 129k miles. The engine is nice as is the clutch. I am looking for power. However, in my old redneck days, it was MUCH cheaper to replace the inline (slant) 6-cyl with a 318/340 V-8. So I was hoping to tap into y'awlz (Var-ginny speak) brains. I haven't seen too many turbo/blower kits for the Zetec, when I do, it lists for nearly $4k OUCH. Wouldn't a swap-out be cheaper? I would NOT be performing the swap myself, should I trust the salvage-yard from where I purchase the engine? Should I get a used motor in the first place? Should I go with a new motor? What else should I look out for, besides motor mount issues? Who can install in the greater WashingtonDC/Baltimore/RichmondVA area?
Thanks (for helping) and, sorry (for the newbie-ness), Shamoon

You'd need a engine/transmission for the v6, pcm, subframe.. basically cheaper, and a hell of alot less work to do what Kermit said.

Check out the Capitol CEG Forum. IIRC, DanG does engine installations. You might want to PM him.

seems like he wants to do an engine swap already, if I were him I would pick up a tour with a dead V6 and drop in a 3l... Preferably a 95. Get some REALLY nice performance for cheaper or the same price as an SVT.

if you do decide to do the swap, i'll take your tranny for the I4. let me know if your gonna do it. sometimes the thrill and experience of doing something is better than just getting a different car. however, if your going to be putting that kind of money into it, go ahead and get a new engine, although some used can be reliable.
