How much pre-load should there be on the traction bars? I have them just bolted in right now with no pre-load for city driving, but for the track how much should I put on it?
They are just regular tubular adjustable's.

Thanks,
Sean

Where did you get traction bars for a Contour? I'd run no preload and see how it works, but I'm not a drag pro, and I've never seen a fwd MacStrut traction bar before.

Judging by your sig, that's quite a mean ride you've got. Any chance you can make it to Spring Zing? I'd love to see it in action!

The Traction bars are custom made. I got the idea from my dyno guys lakewood setup for his focus. I then took that design made it twice as strong, boxed in the control arms and welded some supports on them and everything fits perfect. You can barely see them from the side of the car. They can be adjusted pretty easily without jacking the vehicle up. They do not rub or make noise at all.
I would do spring zing but it is a little far for me. I go to redline meets when I can and do the plaza 300 thing in windsor almost every saturday but not usualy anything out of town (work too much).
Side note: Just got my 42lb injectors in.. time to up the nitrous shot. Might push it too far but it will be done right, hogging the dyno till I get it perfect.

A little far for you?

You cant be more than 30 minutes from me, and I went last year for an elapsed time of like under 3 hours.

I'm not too familiar with traction bars but is this the basic idea?

Yeah, I don't get it. I thought traction bars were an old leaf-spring thing.

What motion of the front, mac-strutted, independent suspension is it that you're trying to prevent that will, in so doing, improve your traction at launch?

At what power level does this become necessary?

I'm not much into drag racing, so this is new territory for me. I know wheel hop is an issue for some guys. Is that what you're trying to kill?

Yeah, they prevent twist-up on leaf springs, but when you have a ton of power in a fwd MacStrut, you get that wheelhop we all hate, and this should prevent that. The Civic drag guys with tons of power have them sometimes.

Very good question. I as also awaiting this answer.

I could see it helping if you used a solid torque brace (or 2) mounting the transmission case to the frame but not the A-arms. Wheel hop comes from the reverse oscillation of the entire powertrain. If you are not running solid engine and transmission mounts with a torque brace or two you are not stopping this problem at the beginning.
