It's posted in the Northwest branch forum, under the "Portland area member w/ scanner" thread.
Today's topic: Can an NA 2.5L pull ABOVE 200 fwhp on a Mustang dyno with the input of a good tuner?

I would doubt getting 200fwhp on a dynojet, let alone a mustang which produces lower but more realistic numbers. I have all your basic bolt ons and got 182fwhp with an xcal tune. I added a zex kit to get me over that 200fwhp mark though.

This mark would have been hit a lot sooner if I hadn't had an incident with a telephone pole.
I'm not sure Demon ever actually dyno'd his car...

with enough work, yes. But it would be cheaper to go 3L. You'd need some pretty careful engine work, and once you've got the engine open, why stick with the 2.5L block?

I'm pretty sure he dyno'd his 2.5L, at around 195/6fwhp.

200hp on a Mustang dyno from a NA a 2.5? I seriously doubt it.
Edit - info added on my car:
Mustang dyno:

Max Torque: 177.0 @ 5750 RPM
My mods of note at the time of dyno:

Ported & polished heads
SHM long tube headers
Extrude Honed Power Flow UIM
65mm throttle body, optimized
AFE 8" filter w/ heat shield
Bassani cat-back exhaust
Torsen LSD
SPEC Stage 1 clutch
SPEC flywheel

that's exactly what I wanted to say. With the amount of work it would take to get a 2.5L there you could just drop in a 3L.

Question is, did we believe it? In a word...NO. Were we surprised? Yes. Could it be a fluke? Could be. Could be ideal weather conditions, could be ??? Following this run, the first thing we checked was calibration. It was on the money. Then we put a FF AC Cobra on the Dyno, that had known Dyno numbers from another MD Dyno in Florida that the customer had purchased and transported in. He wanted to verify his numbers and Dyno sheet he received when he purchased the car, and as he put it, wanted to make sure he had been "told the truth about the power output".
425 HP and 437 ft/lbs in Florida. 420 HP and 436 ft/lbs on ours.
What does all this tell us? We are not sure except to say we knew it made 110 HP with the exhaust plugged. 33.7 psi of back pressure. We installed new plugs, wires, exhaust and raised the rev limiter and installed a tune. Those are the numbers it spit out.
One other comment. Last year we did a 69 BB Chevelle. A 90 HP gain. Did our customer believe it? NO. That was, until he hit the track. He previous best ever was a 12.80. His new ET? 11.90.

Disreguarding the idea of just bolt-ons, Mumm Brothers had i believe 295 hp out of their n/a 2.5 race engine.
