I snapped four lug studs when torquing to 95. When I switched to 85 lb ft, I haven't lost any yet.

Ya know I went to put the tire back on after I did my LCA...
Asked for a torque bar for 65ft/lbs, and he hands me the gray 100ft/lb one. I was like "Uhh.. you have the yellow one?"
Dude asks me if I have aluminum rims and proceeds to tell me that I need the 100ft/lb bar. I asked him again for something smaller, and he gives me a dirty look and hands me a torque wrench... ehh, good enough for me!

Yeah if your using an impact wrench it can, normally it will just strip out your studs and/or lugs..

That can also happen if you tighten one bolt up at a time, you should use a criss cross pattern and go slowly when tightening/loosening your wheels.

How could it possibly warp a rotor?

I did 70 lb ft for years and never found a loose lug during tire rotations, brake work,,, whatever reason I had to take the wheels off.
Now I'm doing about 75. Never warped a rotor. Criss-crossed and used a torque wrench. Went through one pass about half way (just estimating) and then on the second pass in the criss-cross pattern I tighten to full torque.
