hi everyone, I am asking for any ideas regarding the parking brake mechanism, and if anyone has the similar problem, and has repaired/replaced it. I haven't had a fully operational parking brake for about 5 years now. The handle will pull up and lock in place, and it is not sloppy at all, just dosen't hold the vehicle in place. I looked under the boot and noticed a small "adjustment"? screw. could this possibly help the situation? Maybe it could also be the mechanical actuator at the rear caliper?
Thanks, JIM

The Parking brake on our cars are automatically adjusted. Your cables are probably crap if anything. I recently installed the upgraded cable pack and a new parking brake assembly, The install was pretty straight forward.

I cant really think of anything else that would help.. Are your normal brakes any good? cause if they arnt you can always so a break fluid flush and see if that helps.

It could be that the lever is mis-adjusted, or the cables are shot, or the calipers are bad. I'd jack it up and check all three. If you look at the handle mechanism, you should see that it will automatically tighten up with a sort of ratchet mechanism when the cable is fully retracted. If that's working fine, which it probably is, check the calipers. Jack at least the rear of the car up and pull the brake, then try to turn the wheels. I had one caliper go, so only one wheel would be held. The lever on the caliper moved freely without moving the pads at all. Finally, if both calipers work, but the levers aren't getting pulled hard enough - and this is probably the case - the cables are rusted and stretched, and you'll need new ones.

Thanks for your input on this folks! I'm going to check this out a little more thoroughly this weekend. My regular brakes are working fine.

Thanks again,
JIM
