Heh, I use Costco gas...
But I have yet to try the fix. But I'll do it and keep this as a heads-up.
Is my car for sale? PM me if you're in South FL.

no no, its cool, i am resurrecting this thread now anyways... Okay so it came up again that my gas mileage sucks. Someone reccomended a tune up. What is involved in this? To give an idea as to what has been done to try and fix the problem, here is what i have done: The car only had 31k miles when i got it in May, so these are all pretty recent. It has 36k now. Fram high-flow filter. New fuel filter Chemical intake cleaning (Berrymans) Injector cleaner And because I wanted to keep track of this for a while, here is data from a spreadsheet i have with my gas mileage. http://www.people.iup.edu/bvrl/Fuel%20Economy.htm and the only reason i got 25Mpg on the last tank was because the only driving i've been doing is highway driving

It looks not good, but defintely not terrible. Remember, its cold out, you'll burn extra fuel w/ cold temperatures, especially w/ short trips. I get about 27-28mpg on the highway if I run 91 or better octane. Thats w/ 135k an no recent tuneups. If I run 87( Tried it once, figured for highway it couldn't hurt.) I actually got crappier mileage, like 25 to the gallon. Which brings up a question, what grade of gas are you running? Also, what is you're warmup cycle like, start and go, or start and idle for 5 minutes, etc? So many things factor into gas mileage. When I'm at home for a weekend, I do a lot more short trips, and I tend to drive harder because I'm on firmilar roads where I can let it out. I get down to 20mpg in those situations.

I always have run 93 Octane gas. Almost every tank is a mix of short and long trips. I go home about every other weekend so usually every tank has at least one of those trips on it. Usually i just start up and go, unless i need to clean snow off the car... then it idles for a while before i drive. On a tank with all local mileage its usually between 17 and 19

I got a 98 SVTC with 145,000 miles on it. I did a tune up and cleaned the UIM/LIM at 122,000 miles. I get in town about 15 to 18 depending on how hard i drive it and stright highway i get max 25 mpg. I average city/highway about 22-23 mpg.
I was looking at my fuel trims, and they are all out of wack, Short Term is like +25% on both banks, and Long Term is +15%. When i get the car out of storage this spring i am going to start by replacing the O2 sensors and maybe going with a SCT tuner. But i am going to do the SCT after i see what my trims look like after the O2's are replaced.
I always use Shell V-power +93 oct or BP +93 oct.

Seeing as the SVT is designed to run on 91 Octane, why don't you start with switching to that and see what happens.

........... the SVT requires a minimum of 91. higher wont affect it. bescides, they dont sell 91 around here except for a small number of gas stations. the majority have 87, 89 and 93 (sunoco also has 94).
Noone answered my question of what is involved in a "tune-up"?
SVT Manual:
Edit: ignore the underlining in that pic. that was used to emphasize that fact in another post. what i really am showing was that it reccomends a minimum of 91.

A tune-up is generally new spark plugs (sometimes even new wires), UIM/LIM cleaning, TB cleaning, EGR cleaning, new air filter, new fuel filter.
