I suppose. My personal experience with Michlins (a few months ago on my Honda Accord EX coupe): They suck. Worst suckage of all has been Goodyear... In my experience. GY will never find their way onto my cars ever again.

I've had good luck with BFG, Yoks, and Khumo is OK for a cheap-o tire.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer tells you little. Every manufacturer makes good tires and bad. Michelin makes the awesome Pilot Sport Cup & PS2, as well as really poorly performing ones like the MX4.

No, it doesn't come down to personal preference. This isn't the color of the car, it's a physical component that has a certain job to do, and you can judge it by how well it does it's job. I'm having trouble understanding how you could even think that.

No. It comes down to how the tire performs, cost, and quality. Things that can be objectively measured.

And I agree, every company makes bad and good tires.

x3

Sivart, you are incorrect - see Kremit and AutoX's replies. It's not subjective like what looks good.

Personal preference still does play a part in performance though. For instance, some may prefer to sacrifice a bit of ultimate grip for a smoother, more progressive breakaway characteristic. This would lead someone to choose the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup over the Yokohama Advan A048.

To some, dry weather grip is king. To others, wet weather or snow is a consideration. There's also breakaway characteristics, treadwear, price, heat resistance (ahem, Falken Azenis), appearance, warranty, and other qualities.

Every tire is a compromise. It's just a matter of picking the best one for your car and your preferences for your pocketbook.
