So many of us with the V6 are experiancing problems with our engines due to leaks. With all of the cold weather vacuum leaks are causing lean mixtures. When you finally totally fixed the problem, what was wrong? What parts solved the problem?

The last time I had a vacuum leak (P0171 and P0174) 18 months ago, it was a broken hose.

I have read so many posts the past month with this problem - anyone else fix their car, or are you driving it with the problem still??

Top of the list are intake gaskets and PCV hose.

They can both go bad in as little as 4 years.

PCV Hoses, and valve cover breather hoses and IMG. All replaced due to leaks before the cold weather hit.

Well my CEL will come on if the car is in accessory (dash lights, radio etc) The codes is 174 and 171. It would make since that it is lean because der the motor isn't putting out emmissions at all. But Last week my tour had somekind of a quirky grinding. I'm really lost and I noticed his post and figured I'd ask. I'm bring the car in today to play with it. Right now the snow is melting off and my dad is snow blowing our driveway so I can get his tauros out and my tour in.

I still have intermittant lean codes but the engine is much much better since I did the upper and lower intakes, the fuel rail to manifold seals, vacuum hose O-rings, PCV valve and the PCV intake hose. I hunted around with carb cleaner for more but it's hiding still.

I am currently trying to determine if and where my possible vacuum leak is. Have a lean read from my 2 new O2 sensors when the temp is cold and when not at operating temp-Front and Rear O2 sensors not switching, system is or was lean. Codes 172 and 176!

Have researching this problem and it seems quite a problem for our cars! Need to take 'er South.
