I am replacing the front rotors (260mm) on my 1997 contour and I am planning to order them from BAT. Has anyone used the "econo rotors" fron BAT. Is it worth the extra cost for the more expensive EBC rotors (about $34 total for two)?

Like all of us my funds are limited and I'm trying to make sure I have enough to buy all my christmas presents without using the credit card too much I plan to pair the rotors with the Mintek A/F pads.

I also notice that BAT sells replacement pins, bushings, and springs for the front calipers. Do these generally need to be replaced or is this more of a "nice to have"?

I do not race the car. I usually drive around 75mph on highways and slower around the city so I am looking for a good low temp street configuration.

I also plan to replace the rear drum brakes and flush the brake fluid as it's been a couple of years - shame on me.

Thanks

If you're gonna put on hi-po pads you don't watch to use econo-crapbox-rotors cos they'll warp to hell.

persoanlly I do not waste my money on "econo" rotor, the brakes are the one thing that stop you why would you want to go cheap, tires are the same thing ...

plus the cheap rotors tend to rust onto the hub, there is a huge difference between American made and over seas made rotors

What size are your rear drums? BAT offers a 4-corner kit for the 8" drum-equipped cars. (95, 96, and some 97 year cars).

It's $115 for the premium rotors, Mintex A/F pads, and Raybestos shoes. Darn good deal, if you ask me, and if it works for you.

I bought their 4-disc brake kit for $189, and I've been more than pleased with it. Proper rotor seasoning and pad bedding is a must, but I've had no "warping" or other issues, and I'm a pretty aggressive driver. Unfortunately, I can't speak for the Econos.

I don't know how many miles you have, but on the front caliper, I would replace the caliper slide pin bushings, for sure. The pins, I was able to clean off real well and then relubricate, and the springs were still fine. The judder I was getting before the job disappeared, which I'm pretty sure can be attributed to the bushings.

HTH.

Thanks for the info.

RogerB: I couldn't find the 4-corner kit for $115 in the BAT catalogue. Do you know the part number by any chance? I saw kits for discs all around, but none for discs and drums.

Update: I called and the part number for the kit is K420SD. Thanks, this save $46 over buying parts seperately - like getting a set of end links free!

It's in the "Special Deals" section.

But it's for the 8" drums.

According to Stazi in your other post, yours would be the 9", if I'm not mistaken.

Make sure before you purchase.

RogerB: I have a 1997 I4 so I think the 8" shoes are the correct ones. Thanks for keeping your eyes open for me

Update: I just found the special deals list - I didn't realize BAT had a whole seperate PDF for the deals. I know it's right there on the website but BAT desn't really do a good job of highlighting it as a seperate link. Thanks again for clueing me in.

I used the BAT brake kit on the my old Mystique when I first got it nearly three years ago. It did well enough, nothing overly fancy and a good price. If price is your concern, it's a good deal. Personally though, I'd go with a Stazi kit again A little extra muller but a nice sharp stopper!

Cool. For some reason I thought you had a V-6.
