anyone use just a glasspack in place of the resonator, and no muffler in the back?

In a V-6...

My resonator got trashed by some road debris so I had a 4" glasspack installed at the resonator location. Sounded OK, but the highway drone gave me headaches. After some weeks I changed it out for an SVT exhaust & a Magnaflow 5x8, which was awesome.

A four banger may give you a similar result. If you're experimenting with just a few bucks, my suggestion would be to go for a 6" glasspack. That should eliminate much of the drone. Want a nice setup? Start with a stock SVT exhaust & then change out that res with a Magnaflow - If you want to.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I had that setup for a few months. Sounds ok, but not great, and resonates BADLY under load, like climbing a hill.
Went with a $21 Summit muffler and it sounds 100% better.
