Referring back to this post: Thanks for locking it, douches!
I took my car back in after it started idling very rough and dying. Asked him to check the timing, and it was spot on. He then checked my fuel pressure, and it was fine at the pump. Pulled the fuel filter (original 100K), and black chunks fell out, along with black gasoline. $75 later, problem fixed.
First of all, I know I should have maintained the filter. Don't start on that.
My question is: Why would the gas be pitch black? Ideas?

Oxidation of gas tank, "non-recommended" gas additives (maybe ATF) or just plain oil mixture of other types of fuel.

My money is on plain, old-fashioned scale from the bottom of the fuel tank. Bound to be some moderate scaling after 100k.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
