Well,I have to hand it to the Zetec this time. I used to have a Zetec ATX Mystique, completely stock and the thing was a complete slug. No amount of thottle mashing could make it move quicker than a drunk slug in a drag race with a hunk of poo.

But alas,I picked up my '95 Zetec MTX beater tonight, and drove it home for 115km and I must say, what a great little motor when paired with the MTX. I swear this thing is just about as quick as my Duratec. I couldn't help myself but mash the gas and be like 'holy crap,my V6 is about this fast. Either this car is quick,or my V6 is slow!"

Had an entertaining drive, with the exception of the car running in the upper ranges of the temp gauge, with the needle sitting on the "A" in NORMAL the entire drive. I'm thinking thermostat or poor mix of coolant for that.

Driver's side CV shaft is grumbly and buzzy at any speed above 60kmh,so I will have that looked into on Monday when I have the car saftied. Otherwise, for 264 000km,she drives like a dream, and I am more than impressed with the Zetec this time around. Even though it's my beater,I'm still doing a CTA CAI and some exhaust work to pep it up a little bit.

But yeah...I always thought you Zetec guys had it rough,as I experienced with the Zetec on the ATX. You manual guys have it pretty good, you're not missing 'much' with the Duratec....

I need to install a tach though. Sucks driving a stick with no tach.

yeah the zetec with a mtx isn't that badm it has enough get up and go to get you into alittle trouble.

as for the temp guage the zetec one is more eradic then the duratec. reading A is pretty normal, mine is slightly above m. verify that the coolant is good and that the fan comes on and you will be all set

as far as it being as fast as a duratec, no way. go drive your tomorrow and you will see a hugh difference.

i've heard the temp gauge is a bit wacko, but it went wacko on my Mystique and changing the thermostat helped and it ran around the O and R on Normal, when before,it was up in the high end and even right in the red with the car turned off.

I know it's not as fast as the V6,but putting my foot down with a high mile zetec was enough to make me giggle. For 125hp,the thing seems like it has around 140. Of course my Duratec is faster,it's not stock, and it gets me in lots of trouble.

But atleast I'll have some fun with this Zetec while the Duratec is sleeping. I also think the zetec will be better for the winter too. I won't kill myself.

MTX Zetec and ATX Duratec are about as fast as each other, actually..

Of course, he has an MTX Duratec, but, still.

Yeah. The ATX Zetec is a slug. I make the best of it tho. I have found that the Zetec is VERY responsive to weight reduction. Just ask the guys who went with me at the track. I went from an 18.6 to an 18.4 just by taking about 75lbs of junk and tools out of my car.

Yeah, but the Zetec I beleive has been rebuilt, but the body has 264k KM on it,and my Duratec is original with 291k KM on it and the UIM and LIM have never been cleaned.

in some instances I agree. if you REALLY know how to drive stick, with a zetec MTX you CAN pull a 15.7 on the quarter, dead stock. I have seen one do it, I was really impressed.

!!! In that case, your MTX Zetec is probably FASTER than your Duratec!!

Head on over to the Maintenance faq and rebuild those UIM/LIMs!!!
