I just took a closer look at my 1985 Dodge Lancer's new (100 miles) front brakes, and found grooves like yours on BOTH sides of the once-new Left front rotor. I decided it was not just grit, and I did hear a 'slight' grind once during the first test drive a few weeks back. I got a free replacement for the Bendix (Titanium Metallic) pads, and a new rotor free today. So the second left front brake job seems to be smooth so far! The RF brake was OK so far. Advance Auto Parts didn't hassle me, I wonder if there is a problem with the semimetallic linings having hard pieces in them. Or my caliper wasn't perfect (stupid rattle clips) . I don't know if your vendor will exchange like that, the store policy may be unusual.
