Here is my question to contique owners. Did you people actually go out and buy a contique because you liked it? Or did you grow to like it because that is what you had to drive (car was passed down, bought it from parents/friends). What I am trying to ask is how many people here would actually if they could do it over again buy a contique? And did you become a fan after or before owning a contique?

I only have 1 day with my 00 mystique, and i bought it because i like it a lot, interior, exterior, etc. I knew about little problems with these cars but i bought it because it's cheap and a very nice car at least for me.

i remember when i saw the pre 98's back in 97. i liked the body style the head lights and the tail lights. then my dad was getting my mom a car and as we looked i saw the contour it was a 97 GL dark blue with the SE rims. R.I.P Jaded. Got totaled then someone fixed it. if it wasnt for the damn air bags . i wish that was optionable to fix.

We bought it because we didn't like the Escorts. We needed a larger car, since we were planning on having kids in the next few years.
We haven't regretted it. It has +112,000 miles on it now, and in the past year or so, it has had some problems/ things wear out, but nothing crazy. Wheel bearings, timing chain tensioners and guides, clutch... I have been aggressively maintaining it the past year plus, which I believe has helped.
We did own a '96 for a while, because we needed a used car, and the price was right. It was a high mileage Zetec that hadn't been maintained well and died/ got too many problems.
Good luck. They are good looking, nice cars. IMO make sure you get the Duratec engine, but some have good luck with the Zetecs.

Actually I own a 99 contour 4 cylinder. I love it. I bought it new right off the dealer ship floor (back in highschool). I wish I had money for a svt or even the v6. But I am happy with my tour. Saving for a CSVT.

I was looking for a cheap set of wheels to replace my Grand Marquis & wanted something more 'sporty' - like my BMW. Most of the alternatives were waaaay too expensive compared to another big Merc until I drove a Contour SE locally. Found a better deal on Ebay.
Was so happy with the SE that I got another one for my daughter to drive. Grew to love my SE so much that when totalled, I replaced it with a Mystique. IMHO, it cannot be beat for the money - if maintained well.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

love at first sight basically My husband was eyeing up the Contour in college - he even used it as an example in one of his midler year term papers. He bought his in 2000. After he got his, and I got wind of an SVT Cougar being made, I fell immediately in love with the new Cougars. Didn't get the SVT package obviously, but still loved it from the get go until I bought my Cougar in 2001. and if that wasn't enough, when baco was talking of selling his '95, I couldn't pass up having yet another one in the family <3
