I own a 1996 contour GL with ztech engine. Does anyone know is there a way to fix ABS on your own? How difficult is it? Is there sertain parts needs to be replaced? If anyone knows please reply to this post or email me on Emilgevor@yahoo.com Thanks you very much people.

I bet you it isn't the least bit easy. It is computer controlled. What exactly is wrong with it?

Try replacing the sensor, I am warning you....they are not cheap.

I have acess to sensors for very cheap prices so thats not a problem
i dono whats wrong with it all i know my car acts like there is no ABS just breaks. You know like on the older car models with no ABS breaks still work but there not as good as with ABS.

Do the brakes lock up or is it just taking a lot longer for you to stop?
If they are locking up, sensor is first guess.
If its taking longer for you to stop, it could be alot of things.

I don't think my '95 contour has ABS and I'm still here.
But I have skid in the rain one or twice, but not out of my control.

my 96 contour doesnt have ABS, check your dash when you start the car... if you see a light that says "ABS" come up, then you do have ABS if you dont, then you dont have ABS. I dont think man GL's have ABS... but I may be wrong...

ABS was an option for GL, LX and SE in 1996 according to the "Features and Options" section of the brochure.
