I noticed this plug has its shell copmpletely threaded compared to the Motorcraft AWSF 32F plugs I removed on my 96 SE.
Why is it different? Is this plug used in other applications?

Ford has reviewed and realigned their spark plug inventory. I think that you will find that the plugs are interchangable. Where the plug seats to the head is the same on both styles.

Basically, Ford consolidated part numbers for spark plugs and where they had two styles that could be used interchangably, they now only stock one style. That means less inventory for every stage in the supply channel.
