Bring two way radios if you've got them. Some people will have extras to lend to you. Channel 12.
People at the tail end of the cruise line - beware - sometimes it's hard to keep up when you're last in line. Be sure to speak up if you're having trouble keeping up.
Sometimes the leader of the pack doesn't realize that going 5-10 over the speed limit actually adds up to far more than that for the caboose.

Kim, you put the wrong directions up by accident. those are the directions to my inlaws house we used for the summer bash, these are the directions to my house for the fall meet....

to skunks house;

from mass pike east or west take exit 9 go through tolls take 1st exit route 20 west follow to first traffic light(get into left hand lane)turn left at light onto rt.131 follow all the way into southbridge, follw through the center of southbridge unitl you come to a rotary stay to the right take first right(about 100ft from the rotary) onto morris st. you'll go under a little bridge follow morris st. to the top of the hill(you will go past a baseball field down on your right)look for maria ave it will be the first right after the baseball field, take your very next right onto apollo drive my house is the last house on the left(the road deadends at a culdisac).

Do you mind posting the exact address for those that want to map it themselves?

I would follow skunks directions, I map quested his address last time and I almost didn't find the place. The mapquest directions are crap in this case. I drove past the street twice and saw about half the town I think trying to find his place

it's 45 apollo drive, southbridge mass. brian is right insome cases mapquest sucks.

the main thing is staying on rt.131 until you get to the rotary. it isn't a big rotary, the other main road that comes into the rotary is rt.169, has you come into it yuo will see the main road cont. to the right. there is a small parking lot next to the rotary and morris st. is right after it.

when you get onto morris st. you will go under a small underpass(old railroad tressel) the road will fork of to the left just follow it up the hill..you won't miss the ball park down on you right...cont. up the hill the 1st. right you come to will be maria ave then 1st right onto apollo drive. very easy, everything will become obvious once you can see it.

I see you covered both names this time ... this guarantees I won't be on the roster twice like the summer meet

I'll keep editing the first post with the attendance list (especially for those coming from outside of CEG), but definitely post up if you'll be attending.

Mike wanted to give the SVT a break, and gas prices say 2 cars not otay. The Cougar needs some fun since it has sat a lot this year (I live 3 miles from work).
Plus I think it'll be fun to show off the new hood.
I'll let Mike drive it.

Then she'll love this cruise.

We should caravan down to skunk's house that morning.
The usual meet up spot good for you?
I'll have to figure out a meet up time so we can make it to skunk's before 10.

If anyone is coming up I395 or down 290, I can meet up with you at Exit 4 (Sutton Ave, Oxford, MA). I know a fairly scenic backwoods route to skunk's house (~25 min drive from that location) ... let me know if interested.

which would essentially help us bypass the mass pike too right?
Is there a good spot off that exit for us to meet? store parking lot or something?

I'm thinking Mike and I could meet Elky and Goonz up off 495, then caravan down to meet you, then follow you to skunks, especially since you know the way.

I'm going to try to map this all out this weekend to get a time estimate on when Mike and I should leave the house, and then we can all agree on specific times to meet at those spots.

I'm psyched for this!
I checked the 10 day forecast and it says rain for the 15th, but we all know how the weather changes up around here, so it's a waiting game.
I'm confident the weather will be good.

rain who cares atleast its not salt! I always go through a big wash and cleaning before it goes into storage anyways and would be only the 2nd time this year it gets rained on(1st time was at the summerbash). I just want to give her a chance to play with the other contours before the winter sleep .

I've got my fingers crossed though .

That'd be pretty cool if you guys wanted to meet up. It would in essense bypass the Pike and toll roads, plus you wouldn't have to deal with traffic or that insane rotary near skunk's house since we'd be taking a backwoods route. Being that none of you have been there before it might make sense also because many first-timers to skunk's house have gotten hopelessly lost (myself included) due to the hidden road right off the rotary.

As for parking, I will look into it. If everyone is coming southward, it might actually make more sense to get off at Exit 5 (Depot Rd in Oxford, my home exit ) because that exit is often desolate and has huge breakdown lanes to park on the bridge. (I suggested Exit 4 originally because it would make sense to anyone coming northward and it is closer to our target. There is a McDonald's there to meet.) If nobody comes northward, we can meet at Exit 5.

If you're stalking the neighborhood via Google Maps or Google Earth: from Exit 5 we'd head Depot Road to Old Worcester Rd; Main St southbound (Rt. 12); Charlton St -> Oxford Rd.; Mugget Hill Rd; Dresser Hill Rd (Rt. 31); Saundersdale Rd.; Dresser Hill Rd; to East Main St (Rt. 131); Morris St; Maria Ave; Apollo Dr. .... Very decent route involving picturesque Oxford town center, Buffumville Dam, and Dresser Hill farm (including popular country-bumpkin ice cream at the corner of Dresser Hill and Saundersdale).

alright, here's my rough time estimate for the trip down:

8:45 Meet up with Elky & Goonz at Chelmsford rest stop
9:30 Meet up with 98SE at Depot Rd, exit 5
That should allow us to arrive at skunk's at 10:00 roughly.

sound good?

Sounds good. I'll have my two-way on, if you want to radio when you're approaching the exit or so.
Word of warning: the right-hand lane drops off at exit 7 (Pike exit), so be sure to stick in the middle or the left to stay on the highway when it changes to 395. Exit 5 is about two miles from that.

There's only one exit ramp at Exit 5 southbound. At the end of the ramp, make a left turn and you should see the Miata chilling in one of the breakdown lanes.

I'll see what I can do about making this. I don't like to drive alone across state lines (I get lost easy) so if I can convince a friend to come along with me then I'll be up for it. I'm already half way there being here at uconn right?

you are not even 30 minutes away since you are at uconn. if no one else says they want to meet up i can meet you at Uconn or the commutor lot off exit 69, I did this many times myself with Jsmith as we drove up to meets.

actually if you want to meet around 9:30 that is fine by me, either way i come up I have to pass that exit off 84, let me know

same for any other CT people, let me know

It's supposed to rain on Saturday ... yet be perfectly sunny on Sunday ... I hope everyone planned on that rain date, as it might make sense to exercise it

Chris - glad to see you're coming!

we're free either day, so we'll gladly take the sunnier day.
But you know how the weather changes up here, so we'll see as we get closer I guess.

oh well
it wouldn't be the first time it rains during a fall cruise.
The scenery still looks decent and the driving is always fun.
We'll make the best of it, as we always do.

best bet is to wait until friday to check the weather. channel 7 just had it raining fri/sat, clearing sunday high around 63 it might be warmer inland. Sat or sunday is fine either way.

I was hoping maybe we could get some Contour pics for the calendar. Beaters won't make it much a of picture though

.. and anyway I'm hoping we can do an official beater meet in the winter again like we did in 2003. Maybe ..

My Mystique is my beater ... the more I hang out with you people, however, the more I feel like I should pour more energy into it. Damn peer pressure...

Well, I did get a cover for my Mystique since I don't drive to work; it's been getting a nice soaking for the past few days.

The meet will be this weekend. Absolutely, no matter what. Everyone's taken this weekend off for it It could be hailing with 100mph winds and we'll still hold the meet

Depending on which is the less rainy day (not even shooting for sun at this point), it will be either Saturday or Sunday. It's still too early to predict. We originally set it for Saturday so that will be the day if raininess is negligible between the two days.

If it's rainy, I'm bringing the Contour. If it's half-in-between, it's a toss up. You all know I'd rather the Miata, so I'm praying for cloudiness.

If you guys do change to Sunday I will probably be able to go. Any one have one of the larger spare tires they would like to sell me from an SVT or cougar.

if anyone has a second one I am looking also but not to concerned, because in the end I can just rotate a tire to the front if needed and put the spare on the back

From the information I am getting I think we should do the meet sunday the 16th. I was just watched the news and saturday is gonna start out drizzly but sunday clear and in the mid 60's only 20% chance for rain.

weather.com aint worth crap. If I went by them all the time I wouldn't be doing sh#t. We just need to keep an out and make a decision on friday. I have been following these news sites channel 7 boston, channels 22&40 springfield and channel 3 hartford and they all have sunday has the best day, justy windy. saturday looks like late clearing but we are meeting up in the a.m.

My opinion make it sunday rain or shine come hell or high water we are doing the meet and if it's sunny saturday looks like I'm dead meat on sunday .

Meh, if it's sunny Saturday then I'll probably come down for fun. (Maybe. )

Or maybe make it a two-part meet like the summer bash, lol ...

(just kidding on that bit, that'd be way too large for such a last-minute change to the plans )

---

SO ... is this confirmed; is it indeed officially changed to Sunday?
If so, can Kim modify the topic title to note the change of date for those who haven't read the entire topic?

also Kim needs to get on the ball on the list of people who are coming ... IIRC Ronin and RespectTheContour will be coming as well .. if not more I might have missed ...

If it's changed to sunday, then could I get an itinerary of sorts with times. I don't want to be on a cruise halfway in mass when I have to be at work in half an hour.

Sorry if my post was misinterpreted .. haha .. I'm a bit stressed being in the middle of finals and one very large and very seriously backfiring project proposal.

hotdimmes: When do you need to be at work? We'll probably hang around skunk's place for a while waiting for people that got lost (I know it'll happen ), then according to the itinerary the drive dips down into CT for a while. You can probably drop off the caravan around then (we probably cross I84 at some point, I haven't checked) and get back in time for work. Just enough time to get to meet the rest of us in person and enjoy a good bit of the drive.

Ronin now has a black SVT, think it is a 99 also, either way it is fst4drs old car, I know because I drove it to see if it really was a SVT and all I can say the difference from SE to SVT is

Well from all the weather sites I've just checked and watching the news I'm planning for Sunday at 10a.m.. It will be a little on the cool side but thats better than rain. Saturday is just too iffy, they had the radar on and there is alot of rain planned for late friday into the night ending saturday with clearing late in the day.

With all the wet leaves and pineneedles on the ground they aren't going to clear of the back roads so our cars will be filthy anyway.

So 10a.m. Sunday the 16th at my house, off for the cruise then pizza and drinks after. sound good?

I'm still in as long as I can make it back to Storrs by 4pm. Maybe I'll go to my boss tomorrow and ask if I can switch shifts from 4-6 to 6-10. All I do is sit at a gameroom on campus and do homework or play pool.

Doesn't the whole fuel tank need to be dropped down for mid-99 and lower?

as far as i know, the fuel filter is an in-line filter.
you can get to it by jacking up the pass side rear of the car and sliding under about 2 feet.
if you reach under the car from the side you can put your hand on it without even jacking up the car.

do even need a jack if you don't like, its easy and you don't need to pull the fuse and try to start the car to drain the line, not much gas comes out if you are careful, but there will be some in the filter itself you need to be semi careful off, just watch the clamp for rust

Kim and I are still in!

Fuel filter is easy. I did the GL's when I first got her. Should do the SVT before she sleeps for the winter.

Perhaps we could watch a bit of football after the cruise too.

yeah, fuel filter is easy. just unscrew clamp, pry off plastic retainers, and remove filter.

and note flow directions so the new one goes in the right way, also might mark the date on it so you know when it was installed

I tried to do mine before but the clamp was too rusted. I took it to a mechanic and let them fool with it... they charged me $7 to install it.

I just realized the Sunday change would conflict with my campus Mass. (No matter really, I can go on Saturday at home, but the on-campus one was going to be nice and small since everyone booked off WPI for October break.) Oh well.

Regardless ... I really can't wait for Sunday to come!!

our meets are cursed this year, I swear.
I'm still in for tomorrow, but seeing everyone's situation this weekend, I also wouldn't be opposed to rescheduling til next Sunday, if that's what you guys would want.

I'm not letting mother nature beat me. I'm still down for the meet. My bathroom isn't bad at all after survaying the damage just lost some plaster and wet sheetrock. The only thing I can think of is some of the planned routes may have to change because of damage but the water will receed quickly after the rain stops.

If anything we can do a short cruise and hang out at my place do mods watch football and just enjoy our company.

so I'm still planning 10 a.m. at my house.

I'm down for it still too. The quickest way for me regardless is that semi-scenic backwoods route, just hope there won't be any downed trees on it!

Kim and Mike (and Goonz, and hopefully ElKy) ... are you still meeting me off I395?

My car is making that clatter noise again .. I've determined it happens whenever I have to ford large puddles (it's always happened when I'm traveling South St. in Auburn in rainstorms, since that road puddles up easily). It comes and goes for a few days after the rain .. so if it's still making the noise I might bring it down to the meet if we're not taking a long cruise. (I did some research on the forums and searching suggests it might be either my idler pulley ... again ... or alternator.)

I'm still planning on the Miata though I could really use a nice long drive in that car.

yep, we'll see ya on 395.

If you don't feel comfortable driving your own car during the cruise, I'm sure it'll be no problem for you to hop a ride with one of us, the Cougar's backseat included.

I don't think we are going to make this one. Our basement got quite a bit of water in it over night last night and we've got some clean up to do. Maybe we will see some of you at Mike and Kim's next weekend!

Channel 12, no privacy code (or code '0' if you've gotta set one like on my Motorolas).

I took the Miata out for a spin tonight, it was clean until then! No matter about dirty cars .. I don't know about your roads, but the ones here are all littered with pine needles, leaf 'gunk' (when leaves are wet for a full week and congeal on the road), sticks, and more.

welp we're home

Great day guys.
I think we did really well making the best of it all, despite the detours.
At least it didn't rain.
Although I'm really pissed that I anticipated the rain and took the car bra off. I now have a pretty good rock chip in the new hood's paint.
That'll have to wait til spring to get fixed.

I took a lot of pics and nearly half are crap.
I'll do my best to sort through them and post up asap.

Thanks all for a great day, especially skunk and Michelle for hosting.

Glad everyone had a good time. Quabbin offered some great views and the roads where good for the most part. We got ronins wires fixed up and even washed the engine bay.

To bad about the hood kim but it's better than ray's door and my garage doorway . It was great seeing everyone. thanks for coming.

very good day, glad to get to see everyone again

Tony, all I can say about your car is , I want a 3L now ...

and it figures, great day of driving and one the way home shortly after hitting CT I my CEL came on, P0430 again ... only thing different about today was I put 4 gal of 89 in yesterday, I can clearly see that bank 1 down stream sensor is very rough looking compaired to bank 2s down stream sensor, last time this happened was around SZ

Chris you will ahve to let us know what happened, when Tony and I went to leave 131 was closed shortly after river rd, at the top of the hill after the twisty hill, they had a fire truck blocking the road off

Yeah, fun time today guys. It was good putting some faces to the rides. I'll have to come to these meets more often. I also think we need to employ a buddy system when we go to these sketchy bathrooms lol <large biker at urinals>"So how was the view up there?" </large biker at urinals>

thanks again chris!

sounds like everyonehad alot of fun. I spent my day working. Two weeks ago we put a lawn in at a new construction home. The grass wasn't established enough and the heavy rain washed it and about a ton of soil into the driveway and down the road. We cleaned it up and re-seeded the whole lawn and had to do all the work on the soil by hand because the soil was still too soft for the loader.

If there was a chance to take a dip in a mountain pool that may have woken you up especially if their was a crust of ice around the edges.

Thanks again to our hosts for the use of their home as well as for the planning (and resourcefulness, esp. for the detours) that goes into the cruise route.

ronin blew by me around Exit 11 on the MassPike pulling 90+ in the left lane. In the blur and dusk, his lights were working well.

We were at the Quabbin Reservoir .. there were plenty of chances

I was sad to see you couldn't make it but the circumstance is certainly understandable. You wouldn't believe how much I slept last night after all that driving (roughtly 6PM-11:30PM, then 2:30AM-noon, where I forced myself to get out of bed)...

I kept zonking out in the car on the way home.
At around 5:30 I looked at my watch and was like "holy hell, didn't we leave skunk's at 4ish?"
Mike said my head was bobbing all over the place

Getting up this morning was kinda difficult.

Of the list of places *not* to talk to a man, the urinal/toilet-stall tops mine... seconded by the waiting-room in the STD clinic and maybe the adult section of the local rent-a-flick.

Nice! Even my fifty-footer is in there (usually, people instinctively leave it out of the viewfinder 'cuz it's just so uninspiring).

I (hopefully) have a "panoramic" of all the cars lined up in front of the state-police station during our last stop at Quabbin. The problem is, I don't have photo-stitching software. If any of you has the software and is interested in undertaking the task, I can forward the digitized images to you.

as long as the photos are all the same size I can do that easily. I put some of my pics together last night but fell asleep before I was able to post anything

I'll get more photos up ... someday. I'm being really lazy right now ... plus most of the ones I took are so similar to the ones that have been posted.
