I've seen many vehicles with this on but it can't tell exactly where to connect one, and how do they help the engine?

Like the SleeperZ setup, what type of breather can be used and if someone can take pics of there setup would be greatly appreciated.

No reason to. Though if you want it's the hose from the valve cover to the intake.

Alright, on the Pre98 like yours the breather filter is that rubber tube coming from that nipple on the upper right-hand corner of the valve cover. The hose leads to the breather filter housed inside the stock airbox. It is possible to remove the stock breather assembly from the box and keep it, but you want style, so go buy some rubber tubing of the same size/diameter and one of those kool breather filters(your choice). Okay, now the purpose of the breather filter is to allow ventilation for the oil, and the filter keeps it from spewing out all over your engine bay. Answer your questions?

Yes, thanks for the help! i'd figured it was for the oil but wasn't sure.

It is actually there for oil vapors coming off the cams and valve train.
Just sticking a breather filter on the valve cover will do nothing good.
(Granted, just having a breather filter will not do any harm either.)
The system work by using the sucking of the intake to help draw the vapors out.
My breather filter was on only temporarily, but now I have a air/oil seperator that connects between the valve cover and intake.

Yep. I replaced my airbox(it's still in my trunk w/all parts to it) with a Fram 3" inlet Paper filter, but kept the old breather assembly. I have it packing-taped down. Hey Sleeper, what exactly does that seperator do? Does it serve the same purpose as the breather?Thanks...

The air/oil seperator filters the oil vapors out of the air and feeds the filteres air back into the intake.
Where as a breather filter simply vents the filtered air into the atmosphere.

In the stock airbox there is a piece of foam that "acts" like a air/oil seperator, but the foam doesn't filter or flow well.

Its really just a personal choice if you want a air/oil seperator or jus ta breather filter.
Although some tracks (if you drag or auto-x) will not allow atmoshpere venting of anything.

One of the 2 tracks I have been to would not allow any atmosphere venting of anything.
It had to go back to the engine or a catch tank.
