I am at a loss for words after my last test drive.
I spent the day datalogging and checking my A/F curve. I finally got tired of playing around at 0.25bar boost and put on the ball and spring boost controller.
I set it a little high for my test drive by accident. I tagged 1.0bar of boost and somewhere after 0.8, maybe 0.9bar the tires just ripped free in third gear somewhere around 65-70mph. That's over 14psi for those of you who are wondering what psi that is, and the tires broke free at around 12-13psi. Unbelievable how quick it spools now and how fast the power comes on!
No, the engine isn't dead. Even I expected some kind of damage but to the contrary it appears to be fine. I never felt that kind of power in it before EVER. Even with those high 108 mph trapp speeds I pulled before.
Just thought you guys should konw, those of you who are wondering when the stock rods and pistons are going to break...just over 14psi and its still purring. I set it back to 0.5bar for safety. I'll datalogg and play with the timing. Had a different sound to the engine and I don't know if it was borderline on knock or not. I'm going to see what the timings doing and then go up incrementally from here. I'm not taking any bets yet that it will be reliable upwards of 12psi but I've just proved that the stock block can handle a few sprints to 14.7psi boost and not blow up. The tires held when I went maybe 3/4 throttle to restrict airflow at 1.0bar of boost, so it is definitely repeatable and controllable.
Its looking like the car likes 3.8psi in 1st gear, 5-6psi in 2nd gear, and 10-11psi in 3rd gear to remain at the limits of traction. FYI these are 235/45-17" Falken meats on the car too.

Very cool indeed!!

Am I right in thinking this is your "budget build"? IIRC, the last I read about your newest project was doing something like that. If so....

Either way, maybe you will be able to make the Dyno day in GA later next month. That way we can see some numbers from this beast!

Yes. This is the block that I've been running for 1.5 years now.
To be fair I was deployed for a year so it saw limited use then but I beat on it a lot before I left and after I got back.
I've just redesigned the pipes for the turbo, as I showed in the 3L forum pictures I posted. Just a few improvements in the crossover but the big improvement is the weaponR headers as the basis and the stainless steel for corrosion resistance.

I can't believe that the thing held up to over 14psi without any issues! I've been tuning it myself and I've learned a lot over two weeks so that is another thing I can pat myself on the back for.

14psi was likely around the 400+ wheels mark.

On stock Duratec rods. Who knew...

Nice! I would give it a little more time at 14psi than a few runs to call the rods ok, but cool none the less. Would be crazy to see them hold sustained high power levels
