this winter my brother and i would like to optimize our ypipes. I have a 98.5 svt, he has a 96 2.5l. my question is my car is in storage til summer, my dad has a lift and all the tools (45 min drive from my car). Can i take my y pipe off and do the opitmization using my brothers car to test fit it?
Thanks Tim

as long as you both have the same type of y-pipe, 2 or 3 bolt

also why would you need to test fit it? you are not changing the outside of the y-pipe but the inside

From the how to: Now take all your parts (don't worry they'll fit back together ok) and install them on the car including the cat to flange connection. Don't put the heat shield back on yet. Doing it this way will guaranty that you won't have any exhaust leaks after everything is welded up. Just snug all the bolts. Now tack weld everything including the bracket to the short Y pipe section you cut earlier. Put about a 1/2" weld on both Y pipe sections where they meet up to the flange. You can go ahead and weld the whole bracket to the short Y pipe now.

Now remove the Y pipe again and finish welding everything back up.

This made me think i had to have a car to complete this mod.
