Did you just replace the resistor? It sits in the air system. When I changed the resistor in my 1985 Dodge Lancer, it gave off whitish smoke for a few minutes, and I saw the smoke because I tested it before installing the resistor in the hole. Some kind of oil..

Might be good to check the resistor.

could it be water, or condensation? it has been raining here a lot, and i keep my a/c on max because of the heat.

Yes, it could. When you said "a/c on max", you meant MAX A/C right? Not maximum blower speed, right? On many occasions, I have had vapors/mist coming out when I have the A/C on Max with a low blower speed (especially when it rains or when it is very humid). When that happens, I will turn it to Panel and maximum blower speed. I read that was what one should do in a another vehicle's owners' manual. I don't recall reading it in our Contours (but I followed the same procedure).

There is nothing wrong except that it is too cold to have it on high blower speed when it rains. I usually have it on low speed and max A/C

Edited. Read your post incorrectly.
