I'm wanting to do kinda a quick cheap intake setup since my budget is kinda low right now. I was wondering if a ZX2's intake would work on our Zetecs, and also if anyone knows if those have that air box that muffles the sound like our's do, thats why I'm asking this because I want to mainly get rid of the air box. Also get a cone filter too.
Thanks in advance.

If you just want to get rid of the box where the filter is, you can remove it and put an open filter directly onto the MAF. Not a great idea though. And a focus intake will probably work better than a zx2 intake.

I got a cheap Zetec Focus intake for my car. It fit fine. All I had to to was make a hole in the pipe for the IAT sensor because it did not have the hole. It worked out great.

Which focus intake did you get?

e-bay focus intake

Something like that?

Cone filter on MAF = bad.
If you just want looks, get any shinny thing on EBay.
If you want performance, do a little searching on CEG and you'll find that a few people have built their own intakes cheap.

Why can't I put a cone filter on the MAF?
Also do I just get a hose or something and connect that to the MAF and run the hose to the cone filter?
With a lot of the intake setups I see the MAF is connected right with the cone filter, of course with a MAF adaptor.
I'm confused right now.
Edit: I found this, it looks like it'd be a good intake setup.
Cheap, clean looking, anyone that has this setup like it or has any info on it that the site doesen't tell you?
The asking price on it is $94.95, after shipping it's $100.43. Also does anyone know if it has a hole for the IAT sensor?

The MAF needs atleast 6" of straight pipe to get a clean reading, preferably 8"-12".
Guaranteed loss of power and mpg with cone filter on MAF.
Maybe not alot (1-3HP/TQ and 1-3mpg) but its there.
Of course, you could put a air screen on the MAF (like the SVT) to get around this.

So could I build a cheap intake by adding a length of tubing to the MAF and then an open element filter. I am thinking of building my own version of an CAI extension but just doing this before the MAF and leaving the rest stock for now.
