ATS Comp Lites in 17" look tasty: 15lbs for $100 each - yum! Too bad no one makes an STS tire in 225/40R17. Does anyone make that size, in anything? I'd rather run 16" if I'm running 225/45, but the wheel selection is better for 17s. I have until next summer to get something, so maybe I'll find the answer by then. Either 16x7.5 Comp Lites or Kook Z212 in 225/40R17 would be perfect. I'm afraid I can't justify 615s for local competition, faster or not. They don't come in better sizes either, anyway.

225/40-17? Those are tiny (1.5% shorter than stock)! You mean 225/45-17?

Or you could get RT615's in 235/40-17, which would only be slightly shorter than stock (0.2%).

Also... 225/45-17 are available in both RT215 and RT615.

I would mention Kumho MX's, but my times were consistently 20-30 PAX points lower than on Falken RT215's.

My stock size is smaller than the SVT. It came with 24" overall diameter tires, and I've stuck with it. There is no end of selection in 225/45R17, but if I can run the same sidewall and tread width in a 16", I'll take the lighter wheel and lower gearing. 225/40R17 would be perfect: halfway between my size and SVT, but no one makes a tire in that size. And 235 would be great, but it's not STS legal. So I'm stuck with 225/45 right now, probably in 16" since if I go bigger I don't gain anything and it costs more. I really would like a crisper sidewall (especially on the Kooks), but going down to a 215 to get a 215/40R17 doesn't seem right. I can't imagine I'd be faster that way.
