Well, Holly and I decided we needed to get away for awhile, and decided to stay with her folks' up in York Maine for a few days...We also drove to an Animal shelter in West Warwick today to look at possibly adopting another "child"(we treat our dogs like kids sometimes)...some random thoughts and obsevations.
1) DEFINITELY not a good thing to try and talk your way out of 92 in a 65 with an angry Mass State trooper! Actually, it's worse than it sounds.....the jerk that "forced" me out of the passing lane was evidently being persued on 290 after I was stopped on the Mass pike. That being said, I STILL recieved a 330$ ticket
....however, the trooper wrote that he had "estimated" me on LIDAR(theoretically impossible) but still bagged me for an expired inspection sticker
2) People STILL notice "old" Lamborgini Countaches! I was "stuck" (damn camera wasn't working, or I'd have some cool pics) behind one all the way through Long Sands Beach, and EVERY single person stopped and stared!! You'd think I was behind the President or something....
3) Rt.128 should have signage that say "drive at your own risk:!!! We saw two accidents driving to RI, one involving a truck that literally went sideways into a car (God, what a mess!) and another with someone trying to get onto 128 who stopped dead on the on-ramp (saw that in my rear view-not pretty either). I'm not even going to count the near misses that we saw!!
4) The locals in and around Foxwoods Casino have evidently decided that THEY are the law-enforcement "force" in that area. I Actually had some jerk purposefully pull in front of me on Rt.2 from a gas station and begin waving his hand out of the window at me to slow down! This was after he pulled in front of me while I was doing 60 (it's a 55 MPH zone where this happened)!!!!! Needless to say, I gave him about 2 seconds to feel proud of himself before I just coasted around him and kept going unabated, to his obvious displeasure (i.e. honking of horn, flashing headlights, giving me the "bird", etc.)
5) The Kittery Trading Post has turned into an over priced tourist trap......Oh, and the Weathervane on Rt.1 gave me and my father-in-law food poisoning....great....just in time for the ride home.
6) lastly, after driving for 2 hours to get to the West Warwick animal shelter, I can honestly say there are still good people in this world.
I have rescued many dogs over the years, but it was quite astounding to find an animal control officer who genuinely had a bond with his "tenants" and genuinely wished for them to go to a good home. When this gentleman and I corresponded online last week (i found the place searching for a dog to replace my sister's deceased Shepard), he was genuinely surprised that I was willing to drive that far to "save" a "very gentle dog".
When I got there, Holly and the dog hit it off, and he actually was going to waive ALL of the fees to adopt for all of our troubles. We are probably going down there again Friday, if we have enough room for her here....It also felt good to donate some treats and food to those dogs....they all looked lonely.
