Hey guys..I need some 1999 Contour SE I got new tires. I told the guy I wanted a smoother ride but with a decent price. He suggested several but ended up with Warrior HR 205/60R-15 91H BSW. They seem OK but then I went to another Discounttire store and the guy said I should have gone with the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred P205/60R-15 90T VSB. I still have time to take these tires back and exchange them for the other ones or maybe something you guys may suggest from Discounttires? Thanks! Maria

Tires are not going to make a huge difference in ride. This isn't a Lexus. Going to 14" wheels will get you a softer tire, with a higher sidewall. However, if you want a cushier ride, I'd get new struts and bushings. Yours are probably failing. You'll want the rubber bits that seperate the strut from the tower, and new control arms with bushings/ball joints. This will tighten up the handling and make it less bouncy.

New tires always ride better at first. Best ones I found for the money are at SAMS club. BF Goodrich Touring for about 63 bucks a tire for 205/60 15. I like them better than the Dunlops I burned up. Tread and traction are A with high numbers for wear.

The goodyears are good.
I agree on the fuzions. But, they're a summer tire made for handling with a 320 treadwear rating. Probably not what you're looking for.

I would stay away from the Warriors. My sister had them on her Acura and they were a poor handling tire, awful in the rain, and did not instill confidence at all.
As far as a comfortable ride... that all depends on your suspension and tire pressure, not necessarily the tire itself (although treadwall stiffness has some impact). Dunlop SP5000's will give you a decent ride with good handling, but I found mine usually vibrated at highway speeds. I'm running Michelin XGT H4's right now, and they're great at speed, but tend to grab the road a bit too much on heavily rutted pavement (and are overpriced).
The problem is that when you go into a tire shop and don't know what you want, they will ineveitably try to screw you. (when I had my Michelins mounted last time, the manager said: "why do you have these tires on this thing? It's only a Contour."--if my car wasn't up on the lift with all 4 wheels off, I would have driven right out of there).

All depends on the shop. Not every shop tries to screw you and most are smart enough to not say something like that.

My stock came with 14 inch Michelins. Then I had 2 BF Goodrich Touring and 2 Goodyear Eagles. I will end up with BG Goodrich again when the fronts wear out in 5K or so miles. IIRC, the BFG seems to handle best as an All season tire (and cheapest too).

True enough... and most shops I've been in have been fine. I guess I was just venting my tire frustrations.

funny I got something like that once, was picking tires out and the guy wanted to sell my toyos, there were right there but I wanted teh dunlop sport a2s and he goes why do you want those and i said because others how have them on their cars say they are happy with em, and I was
so to that guy
I would go to tirerack and use the tire selector and go from there, read the reviews also
