Earlier I asked for some help on my 2000 Contour SE w/ 93K miles. I had a CEL on and very poor acceleration. The CEL code was P1383 (Variable Cam Timing Over Retarded).The repair manual pointed to a problem with the Variable Cam Timing Solenoid. This was not the case. The problem was a worn timing belt that failed within about (5) days of the CEL light. Luckily, no damage was done to rhe engine.
After a $75 wrecker bill, a $148 timing kit, and about 10 hours of hard work, the car runs better than ever (also new double platinum plugs). The CEL light even reset itself.
