i have heard rumors that this site only cost $300 a year, and a couple people are ripping off the CEG community.

Ummmmm...who cares....
The site is ran off of donations. This isn't a pay to view site, there are no Gold Member standards (at least that you can pay for anyway). If you decide to donate for the info you use it's up to you to decide how-much.
So really no one is ripping you off besides yourself if you look at it that way...

considering it's a FREE site... i'm not sure how anyone could get ripped off. besides, i'm sure there are better ways to make money than skimming funds from this website.

A couple of things, most of which have been pointed out:
This site is free. Membership is free. Accessing the info is free. Getting help is free. Donating to the site is VOLUNTARY. If the site coss $300 to run and we donate $600, then the extra is used for the next year, upgrades, etc.
