My comment was about the POS they stuck in the CDW-27. Hell a lot of Ford automatics are plain junk. Period. At least it's not a late 80's to late 90's Chrysler product though.

As for the Cavalier...

The ATX in her Z24 is MUCH better then any of the MTX's they stuck in the J-bodies.

I know I've driven several MTX Z24's and was appalled at how poorly they shift and the vat of butter shifter motion.

I remember laughing at the salesman when during the test drive he was talking about how nicely the new 02 Z24 shifted. After I finished gut laughing I politely explained what a vague, sloppy, and slow shifting MTX it really was. We then bought another ATX 2.4L

The ATX is tough, quick shifting, and extremely efficient. Also it's just a small family commuter sedan. (BTW the ATX gets better mpg then the MTX does)

Yes the car's overall build quality is typical GM. (cheap plastic & squeaks)
The engine & tranny are bullet proof, efficient, and last forever. Plus normal maintenance is ultra cheap which is just what you want on a daily commuter. (Her 02 Z24 4dr has 70k on it)

I know, I just like to poke at you ;-)

I think the Lightning 4R100 is probably one of the best slushboxes ford has put together in recent history (minuse the C4 & C6s of the old days).

As most know, a slushbox should not be oreinted with a 'performance' car. Unless we are talking the Ferrari paddle shift, etc.

Yes the 4R100 is tough.

The one put in the LS & new Mustang is suppose to be quite good too. (5R55) The stock programming has been called crap though.

Um who cares about the Cavalier?

I have to say the Contour ATX is decent. Shifting may not be "top notch" but if properly maintained it can last. After all my taking off, flooring it, manually shifting, taking it up to 7500 rpms, the trans can take a beating. If I would have done half the stuff to a MTX I would have had to replace it already. I'd rather have a MTX yeah....but I nothing bad to say about my ATX.

Maybe you got a freak ATX??

I will agree though, if they are well maintained they should hold up fine.

Bill, if your car doesn't run 15's with the headers, we're doing a 5 spd. swap...
