I had neglected changing my front pads and rotors, so when I had the wheel bearing done the pads were so thin they fell apart and the rotors were rusted to the hubs and could not be taken off without damage. Well so much for a simple bearing change.

Now my question the dealer put on new rotors which have a slot in the rotor surface down by the hub. What is that about? I really did not notice until I got home.

I'm not sure about what you are describing. The front rotors on my car have an area where the internal vents exit near the center of the rotor toward the outside of the car. The rears do the same except that the vent path is toward the inside of the car. That's how vented rotors are made. The need to finish venting somewhere.

By the way, smear a little anti-sieze compound between the hubs and the rotors and you won't have as hard of a time removing the rotors next time. Do it now before it is too late.

I use anti-sieze on all bolts and contact surfaces in the wheel area. It's has made life so much easier when it came time for new pads again.

Big Jim I think you are discibing the same thing. The slot is near the hub and goes aroound the entire disc and exposes the vents near the hub. My old rotors has a solid surface. I have never seen rotors with an area for venting.

Also I will be putting some anti-sieze on. I am painting the calipers this week end so that will be a good to to do that. When we did the rotors on my sons 95 we had to cut them off they were so rusted. We put anti-sieze on them.
