OK, I admit it, I currently don't use synthetic oil. HOWEVER, I am going to start using Mobil Oil. I'm trying to decide between using Mobil Clean High Mileage or Mobil Clean 5000. Currently, I'm changing the oil about every 4,000 miles. I'd like to take this out to 5,000 miles, but I'm wondering what the best type of oil filter is. I currently use the FRAM Double Guard.
CURRENT: -Oil: Pennzoil High Mileage Vehicle Oil -Filter: FRAM Double Guard -Changed: 4,000 miles
FUTURE: -Oil: Mobil Clean (5000 or High Mileage) -Filter: ? -Changed: 5,000 Miles
Oh yea, the car has just over 126K on it and I have no current engine issues whatsoever...

Just use a motorcraft filter, they have the better drainback valves and filter median. I use to cruch filters when working at an environmental waste disposal plant. So I know what is inside them.

You cant go wrong with the Mobil 1 or K&N oil filters either. These are some of the best on the oil filter market. I also suggest Redline Oil. www.redlineoil.com

Filter;
FRAM = Orange Can Of Death, it is absolute crap.
Switch to either Purolator or Motorcraft (which ever you can get cheaper, as they are both made by Purolator).
K&N (HP-2004) is a good choice as well.
Oil;
I don't think the Penzoil is a true full synthetic.
Mobil 1 SuperSyn is the oil of choice for most on here. 5-20 or 5-30 are the popular weights.
After you swap oil/filter and run the combo atleast twice, get an oil analysis done.

K&N lists a filter for the 95-97 Contique. K&N HP-2004 Filter Application List Why is it not listed for the 98+ Contique Engine? Because Ford changed oil filters between engine years for some dumb@ss reason. Operating specs on the two Motorcraft oil filters ARE THE SAME. Our oil filter specs are also the same as the Focus/Cougar. The people on FocalJet (who are a little too stuck-up and think they're Zetec engine is better than ours) doesn't seem to get that.

Yeah, that should be a sticky cause I always hear HP-2004 but not that it only fits a 95-97. My alternator is in the way of a 2004. Surely there's one out there that fits (altho for the price just get a motocraft)

Stick with the Motorcraft. As for oil I wouldn't suggest synthetic as it has a tendency seep past old seals. I also wouldn't use an asphalt base oil (Pennzoil, quaker state) as they are sluge makers. The Texas, gulf and west coast oils aren't so desposed.

The reason there's so much ignorance is that those who have it are so eager to share it.

Am I going to have flow or pressure issues using a larger filter?
