Hey everyone,

My wheel bearing has been going out and just lately it started to make loud noises. So today I called around and got some quotes from ASE certified and BBB endorsed mechanics; all of them said it would be $300-350 to repair the b*tch. That sounds a bit high to me-- any input would be great.

I need a front bearing on my Contour as well. I had one done about a year ago and it was about $300. I took your advice and called the local Sears Auto and was told the part was about $200 plus about $150 in labor.

I called a Dealership, and was told about $300. $150 in parts and $150 in labor.

I have seen bearings that say they are for Contours on ebay. Anyone have any experience with these? I'd really like to get this fixed the cheapest way possible, but I doubt I could do the work, being the nOOb that I am.

Thanks !

Look under Duratec Maintenance, under "Ray's how-tos" for a step by step, with pictures on removing the knuckle..

EASILY done, and then only costs about $40 for the new bearing.

Alternatively, an entirely new knuckle, with the bearing pressed in ALREADY (simply remove the old and install the new) is 160.00 SHIPPED through Tousley Ford. Ask for number, or search it out.
