The Kansas City Region Sports Car Club of America is running an Autocross Driving School at Lot L of the Truman Sports Complex (Southeast lot of the Arrowhead/Royals lots) on Sat April 30th.

Learn How To Drive! This school is a great, low-cost opportunity to learn about autocrossing, and how you and your car behave at the carâ??s limits, in a fun, safe, educational environment. To quote the SCCA, these events are â??driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location, such as a parking lot. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experienceâ? For more information on exactly what autocross is, check here: http://www.sfrscca.com/solo2/faq/auto.htm#102

Limited Entries Means More Seat Time For You! This one-day school is open to 40 people who register and pre-pay the entry fee of $60, and who meet the following qualifications:

-- Drivers must provide a valid driverâ??s license or learnerâ??s permit on the day of the event
-- Drivers may not have autocrossed more than twice or attended high-performance driving schools in the past two years.
-- NOTE: Drivers under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign a Minor Waiver Release, even to be on the property during the event.

Note: Your entry fee includes a certificate for a free entry at any other Kansas City SCCA autocross in 2005! Consider coming out and put your newly found skills on Sunday, May 1st.

Driver Safety: Helmets are required for all car occupants. A limited number of loaners will be available but if you have one of your own, and it is rated Snell M90 or better, please bring it.

Intoxicants are not allowed on event grounds at any time during the event. All cars on premises (that's the entire site and its surroundings) must be driven in a safe and responsible manner. Anyone who violates either rule will be asked to leave and will not get a refund.

Vehicle Safety: Motorcycles and high-center-of-gravity vehicles (examples: Jeep Wranglers and Suzuki Samuraiâ??s) are not allowed. Beyond that, any car that passes the safety inspection can run. Among the critical issues are tires in good shape (no cracks or bulges, no cords showing where tread should be), a firm brake pedal, a functioning throttle-return mechanism, a battery that is securely mounted, and seat belts that arenâ??t frayed beyond service life.

Be On Time: On-site check-in will begin at 8:30 am on Saturday April 30th. â??Ground Schoolâ? covering vehicle dynamics and autocrossing tactics will begin at 9:15. First car will be on course at 10:00 am. Plan on being there most of the day and come prepared for the weather. The event runs rain or shine, barring lighting or damaging wind. Wet pavement provides an even better driver education so donâ??t let any rain scare you.

All the instructors are multi-year autocross veterans, many of whom are top finishers at Nationals, and will be assigned to students based roughly on what kind of car they drive.

Registration, Payments, and Refund Policy: Please register as soon as possible with the following form. In the event of a sell-out we will have a waiting list and you will be notified of your wait-list status. Delays may occur due to high winds, heavy rain, or lightning but the event will run rain or shine. No-shows or early departures on the day of the event will not get a refund.

FYI anyone interested in what this stuff is all about can get a look-see (or even participate if you want) at any of the two events prior to this school. There's one this Sunday May 20th, same location, and another one Sunday April 3, same location.
