Ok now I have been pulling the subframe and dropping the whole assembly in the past to change the engine (usually have had other reasons to drop the sub-frame so that is why I have done it that way, plus I have a hoist ).
Who has done it with a cherry picker? Is it any easier than dropping the sub-frame? Do you pull it with the tranny attached or separate? I have a fresh set-up going in within the next month so which ever is faster and easier?
What is the common turn around time that everyone has had doing there swap (not including prep time)?

Good question, I dont know, I have subframe connectors so I assume I would have to come down from above. Hope someone who knows something will answer.

definetaly easier out the top!

with an atx, pull engine and trans seperatly, with a mtx pull them together, because the clutch makes it impossible to seperate the 2 in the engine bay!

Thanks for your input guys! I like the idea of doing it with a cherry picker cuz if by some chance I don't get it done as fast as I would like then I can push it out of the way vs having no sub-frame in and being stuck. Looks like she is comming out the top!

Dropping the subframe is only easier IF:

- You have a lift
- You don't mind getting a new alignment afterwards

Then I would agree. Otherwise....4 hours through the top and you'll have the engine and transmission on the ground.

If you're any good.

Psh, who needs a cherry picker or lift. We took the heads off in the car and then lifed the short block out...although, I don't recommend this method, but when your working in an apartment parking lot...tools are limited.

Yes I do have a lift and all the tools I could possibly need cuz I am a mechanic and I will be doing it over the weekend at work, I think I kinda like the up top idea better just incase I don't get it done in time I can put the wheels on it and roll it out of the way, but I am hoping I can start friday after work and all saturday, then be crusin sat night . Still lots of material to cut out of my LIM thou (getting rid of butterfly's and making it oval port as well). then I should be fully preped. I will post pics when I finish.
