i am going to be buying an echo within the next month and i was woundering if i were to buy the echo in alberta and list my aunts address as my own, and then drive it back to ontario and regester it for ontario would i avoid paying the pst in ontario or would they make me pay it when i reregestered it for ontario. because i can get a one way plane ticket for 79$ and then drive it back for like 40$ gas so i would save about 1000$.

AFAIK, alberta doesn't have a border patrol.
I can think of a similar example.
If you moved from Alberta and bought a car before you moved, would you pay PST in Ontario? No. SO again AFAIK, you'd not pay PST. But you will have emissions tests still (unless like BC you don't need to get it tested for the 1st year you own the "imported" car)

Don't kid yourself. Assuming it got 50mpg and the cost of gas was $0.80/liter, Streets and Trips calculates the cost to around $130 (still not bad) traveling the shortest rout coming back through the US.
Also a brand new car that hasn't been broken in yet will not get that type of milage, and cars rarly, if ever, get the mileage that is rated by the EPA in real world driving.
