I'm trying to fix my tranny due to the broken shift tower bolt problem. I've unbolted everything and disconnected the linkages but now the shift tower is getting caught on something in the tranny. I talked to some British guy and he told me to lift up the tower as far as i could and use a mirror to be able to see inside and realign the brass selector forks so the tranny would be in neutral. I tried this today and cant even get the tower up half an inch or so. Can anybody having had the same problem shed some light on how i can remedy this? If it matters its stuck in 2nd. As always, any help is appreciated.

If the bolt is broken and it's stuck in second is it possible that you can't release it because the 1-2 movement is broken?!

Maybe you have to open the case and move the selector fork manually...

I've never been in one, but I am just throwing an idea out there.

Good luck mike!

I tried helping but don't know too much about the 98+ cable shift.

If you take the shift tower top off, you should be able to maneuver the rod around to get it into neutral.

Heres a good question, are the drive wheels in nuetral, if you can figure this out it would be a great help. I bet they are, and if this is the case, the bolt which would determine the 1,3,5 to 2,4 motion is broken (it also helps the back and forth mtion).

Also try and move the smaller lever of the two back and forth (if you have it). Does it want to return back to center?

The drive wheels are not in neutral. I drove it almost 10 miles after it happened. All of it in 2nd gear. I've gotten everything unbolted and it wiggles side to side a bit but doesnt want to come up.
