A tinking noise coming from the engine bay of my 99 SVT (91K) lately. It reminds me of the sound an engine makes after it's been ran awhile and it warm. You know that tink tink noise. Anyway, my car has been doing that alot lately, I've even been noticing that when my car is running, it'll do it. Is this normal of something i'm just being overly concerned about?

have you been able to get your head close to the sound? so you can pinpoint exactly where its coming from?
Edit: is it over the valve cover... or over the timing chain cover?

The "tink" is very random. I would probably have to take a nap in the engine bay waiting for it...

I was going to say 1 of 2 things... A) Rod knock (lets hope not) or b) timing chain rattle.

I'm gettin the exact same ticking.
And like you said, it is very random. I probably wouldn't be able to reproduce the problem to show someone.

I've heard other engines do it... It does it sometimes while the engine is running and sometimes it will do it a little bit after a long drive when i turn it off.

Is it cyclic at all or speed dependant?

exactly what the name of it is... like a knocking sound, usualy it comes from over the valve cover... but I think it would do it all of the time, not on intervals or cycles...

It seems to be 100% random. The noise itself is not very loud. The only time i seem to hear it is when the car is completely warmed up and has been drivin for awhile. Most times i notice it when i am at a complete stop (with car still running) and have my window open. The only other time i notice it is after i'm done driving and shut off the car and get out it will do the tinking! I have never noticced while actually driving, either it doesnt do it or it's not loud enough. Like i said it's 100% random and it's not really that loud. Any other thoughts... ? I'm going to pay extra special attention today on my lunch break...
