What if I don't want the move the (yellow top) battery to the trunk and instead get a red top with the reversed posts? Will it perform and last (almost) as well? I don't have a monster system, just one 400W and a 260W amp. I'm more interested in the lights dimming.

BTW, my HO alternator started to whine this weekend while I was at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pa (almost 6 hours away from home). Turns out there is a problem with the bearings. I spoke to Don at Volitile Performance and he's taking care of it for me. It's good to know they stand behind their products.

hmmm
well, mine makes a whining noise in proportion to the speed of the engine, isn't that normal for an alternator?

The alternator whine is usually caused by a poor ground in the system. Some amps are also prone to picking up noises.

If anyone lives in a climate with cold winters, i would avoid Optima batteries. There are better options for a little less, and much better options for just a little more.

They are entirely average batteries at a premium price.

The HO alternator worked great for about 3 months and then started to act up. The whine is not in the speakers. I get it whether the radio is on or not. I'm going by my mechanic's advice. I had my original one with me which he offered to switch (so he wasn't trying to sell me a new one). I trust him to tell me the truth since I've been using him for several years.
