Yeah, first thing out of one of my friends mouth when I showed him my car right after I got it, was "Wow, this is pretty sweet for an Escort". I think its just the rear reflector that gives people the idea its an Escort.

i had a 97 chrysler cirrus when i got my tour and other than the fact that it made a better travel car because of its bigger trunk and cushy ride there was no level on which it could compete with a se or svt. i had both cars for a short time and every time i would go from the tour to the cirrus i felt like i was missing a few cylinders. granted, i have the svt and not the se but the se would have been a much better performer too.

i think it's the overall shape. it remotely looks like the last 4 door escort. PLUS, a lot of people have never even heard of a contour. everyone knows the escort.
Thank GOD i havent had anyone say that to me yet! its bad enough that i feel like i have to convince people that it is special.

Do you wanna trade?" I was like "hum, my contour for a beat up old WHITE oldsmobile station wagon.... Thats a though decision... I'll stick with my tour thank you." hes really going to hate me when I get my skirts and Spoiler. That car is going to look SO hot.

I have a sort of funny story to start this one out: This kid from school and I were walkin around talkin about all these cars and I spotted and t-red SVT Contour in the lot. I was like "check this car out with me" (I hadn't owned one at the time), and he was like "what is that a freakin contour? you just made it sound like u saw some exotic car".
A lot of people I have encountered after I switched from driving a 99 V6 Mustang to 98 SVT Contour were like "You went from a Mustang to that?" The funny thing is when they get in it check out the interior, hear it scream, feel it hug the road and all the turns nicely, and watch it take out a lot of cars on the road; that's when they have a smile on their face. Then they get out and stare at it from all angles and say it's a mean little car. I mean I do understand that a ride in a Mustang and a ride in a Contour (or any car for that matter) would be completely different, but they really become very impressed.
Now on the other side you have the people that hate either Ford or all domestic car manufacturers, and they dog on the idea that supposedly "SVT just stands for some extra extra adrenaline in a POS". I don't buy that at all, I was really impressed with the SVT Contours when they first came out, and wanted one the whole time we were paying off the Mustang. Now I can proudly say (after finally finding a used one) I own one and am very very pleased with it. Besides it really comes in handy when driving in the rain and soon the snow.

Heh... yeah. Everyone thought my old 96 GL was an Escort, and a lot of people (usually don't know what a Contour is) thought that both (the GL and SVT) were a Taurus.

Everyone dogs on the SVT until they get inside and admire the leather and sunroof their ricer car didn't even offer. Then I start driving and they notice how much of a driver's car it is. I rode in the passenger seat with my brother driving, and damn it feels like a really fast car, so I can see why everyone is pleased with it.

Oh yes, and I usually always say SVT before Contour... usually when you say "Ford SVT" they kinda pause (probly thinking of the SVT Lightning or Cobra). I'm sure the FSVT and SHO owners get the same treatment from ignorant people.

I wouldn't worry about what other poeple say....My teacher saw my computer at school with contour wallpapers and said "Why do you have those cars on there, they aren't even good cars...aren't those grandma cars??" I just stared at her knowing the very minimal knowledge she has for cars and asked her what kind of car she had? She didn't tell me so either she is too dumb to know what kind of car she drove or was to embarassed to say. Ok thats it for story time haha, anyway just igonre haters they have no clue what the contour can do.
