Just get a sleeper tour, be like oh yeah i know it sucks... then burn'em!! ahahaha!!! I have had my fair shares of knocks on my tour, such as a mom car (ouch), or oh thats your car... oh well, take it with a grain of sugar

Wow. You're snooty about "SVT," and embarassed that you drive a Ford. The issue isn't "the haters," it's your own insecurities.
I drive a Contour and I'm proud of it. The fact that the huddled, addled masses don't understand it--well, that's their problem. I'm satisfied that people who know what they are talking about (auto journalists, car enthusiasts, racers) know this car.

Just because Ford came out with an SVT model of the Contour, that doesnt mean that other Contours are the ones that should be getting laughed at just because they arent SVTs. I would take a non-SVT Contour any day.
But yeah, so many people know nothing about the car and decide to make fun of it from the little past knowledge they have of it. Either from seeing them and thinking its just a stupid little sedan or because they hear Ford and automatically start hating. Once they take a look at the car for themselves or actually go for a ride in it, they love it. I know so many people that have laughed at my car when they heard Contour but once they ride in it, they get out of the car convinced they are going to go find one for themselves and buy it immediately. When I asked my best friend to go look at a Contour for sale with me, he just laughed hysterically. Once we rode it in, he wanted to drive it everytime we went somewhere after I bought it. I got my other friend to buy an SVT when he was going for something like an Integra and now he wouldn't get rid of it for the world.

When I mention the type of car I drive I never say "CONTOUR SVT" because I am more likely to be interrupted in that spilt second by a negative remark about my car. Instead I say SVT...(a pause)...CONTOUR. This way it helps for them to understand its a SVT of a Contour. After that I explain how rare and different it is from a regular Contour. Not to insult for those with a regular Contour, however. Even though I still have the stock emblems people still approaches to me from time to time asking what kind of car is it and whats under the hood at a gas station or such. Most ricers dont realize what Im driving until they see my tailights  -dan

I feel ya man, When people ask me "What do you drive?" I tell them "a contour" and they laugh a little. I give them a dead stare... They continue to giggle. Then im like "wanna go for a ride?" Then as they are walking out to my car... They look at it with my E1's and gutterguard grille and say "wow that car actually looks pretty cool" Then I start it, rev the engine "it sounds pretty good to" and then I take off and they say "woah! is that whine a super charger" (my Gatorback serp belt.) Contours surprise the hell out of people, even the I4 Zetec contours pull pretty have for an average I4 (with a 5 speed that is). I turn some heads with that car.

Oh, I have a friend who used to tease me about being in love with my car. She's been in my car, likes the interior, but laughed at the fact that it's a Contour......... that was, until she finally drove it. She came back the next day and goes "Now I know why you love that car. That thing can MOVE" Apparently she showed some kind in a Honda Civic what was up the night before.  She has never made fun of my car since, but she does call me Mad Maxine when I am driving. Heheheheh

im not snooty about svt, and also not embarassed about ford, ever heard of jumping to conclusions? every car ive ever owned and been proud of is a ford, im a ford boy born and raised. next time dont get so defensive, i wasnt talking down on non-svt contours, in fact ive bene looking for one, just because i like the cars that they are. geez, chill out dude
