Just ran my first AutoX (scca Solo2) at the Oakland CA coliseum.. Had to run my Cougar in Street Modified because of the over sized (330mm) front disks, but since this was my first Solo2 event it was just sort of for fun anyway.. As some of you might know my experience prior to this was some track time with the Cougar at Laguna Seca and Thunderhill race circuits.. A different type of driving but fun and less expensive..

Anyway, here is the damage:
1st run .. 63.045 sec. (ouch)
2nd run .. 60.172 sec. (there is hope)
3rd run .. 56.778 sec. (not bad for a ATX)

I still had plenty of margin left in the Cougar's handling performance.. so I need to get more experience using the ATX with the CFD. Of course, running the course with a full gas tank wasn't the best of ideas either.

Now to consult the rule book and see if I can get out of the SM class..

Solo events are fun...but can be hard on the car, expecially if you don't reinforce things.

I go to a meet where there will be all kinds of hondas and other daily drivers and you can hear the engines bouncing off their rev limiters...I'd hate to be the next owner of that car
I was pulling over a G on the G-tech at a solo event in my summer driver....that was with slicks on.

Why not STX --> street tires allowed and brakes are unlimited?

And before you know it you will be going to an AutoX every weekend. In the last month or so my schedule has been like this.

Oct 10th - AutoX - rosecroft (local)
Oct 17th - AutoX - rosecroft (local)
Oct 24th - AutoX - Hershey, PA (2.5 hour drive)
Oct 27th - AutoX School - Frederick (local)
Oct 30th-31st - 2 Day AutoX - Cumberland, MD (2.5 hour drive)
Nov 7th - AutoX - Aberdeen, MD - (1.5 hour drive)

If you post up your mod list you might be able to find some people here that could help you figure out what class to be in.

YEA, why not? I just found STX rules and it looks like a better fit for me.. Thanks! I don't think the Cougar will be competitive in that class either, but there aren't as many fire breathing cars entered there.

ATX fluid cooler
Upgraded Oil pan

Good point..

1)I have a qustion on the use of the ST200 rear strut brace.. Is it not legal to use a rear St200 strut brace since it has a cross support along with the lateral brace?

2) And.. What about using a five-point harness in a closed automobile that doesn't come stock with one.. My read is that unless it is a convertable with a role bar, it is not allowed?? Thought my wife said she saw a number of cars that did have them installed.

1) I think the rules state that the STB is allowed, bolt-in, from top of strut to top of strut. So, yes, the cross-braces make that one illegal, at least for STS. I'm not sure if that still applies in STX, and for SM, it might be no problem.

2) The rules say things like "must retain stock seat belts" but that doesn't mean you can't use additional harnesses. You just can't take the stockers out, in some cases. Again, I'm not clear on SM, but I think the car has to remain "street legal," and that would (I think) be the driver for retaining the stock belts.

You can use harnesses as long as they're securely (and properly) mounted and you don't remove the stock belts. However, understand that in a rollover situation, shoulder harnesses prevent your torso and head from being able to move to the side, so your risk of spinal injury is actually higher unless you have rollover protection. Not as high a risk of a roof-caving rollover in autocross as there is in race track events but figured I'd throw that out there for futures.
