Faulty fans may not be the cause of the damage to your engine. A stopped up radiator, stuck thermostat, broken or eroded water pump impeller or a coolant leak will also cause one to overheat. Remember, the fans are only designed to cool the engine when the vehicle is below a certain speed. Don't automatically blame ford for your current problems. Why was the engine replaced 25,000 miles ago? Was the root cause of the engine failure addressed? Like someone else in this thread said, it is impractical for Ford to keep up with all owners of every vehicle. Checking periodically for outstanding recalls is a part of normal mainenance, especially on a vehicle like a contour, which (for a while there) had new recalls almost every month....
