Would an SVT Focus 6-speed fit in an SVT Contour? Would it survive if it did fit? Has anyone attempted this swap yet?

Not, the Zetec and Duratec have different bellhousing patterns. Originally posted by NVSVT: Would an SVT Focus 6-speed fit in an SVT Contour? Would it survive if it did fit? Has anyone attempted this swap yet?

Yes, the six speed is not an MTX 75 breed....its a Getrag brand so it would not work!!!!!
if your so intrested in that Contact Terry Haines at
seconline@ameritech.net
he imported the 6 speed Mondeo transmission, for use in out cars...get a price quote from him on how much it will cost to install it....considering no one outside of him has done it, hes the only place you can get it.
But for get the focus SVT....it WONT work...
Sticky this please moderator.....
Lupe
EDIT::: Won;t work with out extensive R&D....but if you got money go ahead and do it....oh, please click on the NEWBIE VIDEO LINK in my signature....good info.

No it's not!
It's shorter because the Zetec it's attached to has a small powerband. It has to keep the engine on a high boil to achieve performance.
The broader the powerband the less reliant the engine is on the gear spacing.

then how come the msp makes the same power and has the same G15M as the zx2 and can run .2-3 ahead of a svtF?
a zx2 will run even or pull on a svtF in 1st and 2nd gears the svt wont start to catch up till about 80mph.trust me I know a guy with a SVTF motor in his zx2 with the G15M tranny.
and i wouldnt call a 4.44:1 1st gear short

To fit the six speed you require the six speed 'box for a UK Mondeo ST220

1. The MSP is turbo'd.....there is more power UNDER peak than the SVTF. I haven't compared the two directly, but common sense tells me that is the reason. I'm not sure on torque numbers for both, but I'd be willing to bet the MSP has more torque also....and to finish, .2-.3 seconds in "bench racing" is almost within a margin of error.
2. I hope you're talking about the ZX2 S/R, not a normal ZX2.
3. What's "knowing a guy with an SVTF motor in his ZX2" have to do with anything whatsoever?
PS, let's take this post elsewhere, we are in a sticky that is supposed to be used for noobs, like yourself.Thanx.

the book time on a SVT is 15.9 the book on a ZX2 is 15.7. the SVT can hit mid 15's but if the traction control is turned off. The average driver in both cars will be hitting about 16.1-.2 all day. The SVT will not pull on the zx2 untill after 70mhp if both launch and shift right.
I mentioned teh swap becaust u said that the SVT needed that gearing, but many svt drivers are trying to change the gears, and the zx2 with its gearing and svt motor will run 14's all day. Even if you take the 200lbs difference off the SVT it wont be running 14's all day like a 150whp zx2 will.

oh i just thought of something that deals with a focus and the six speed tranny. Since the new focus has a Duratec 2.3L in it, would the bellhousing be the same as the v6 duratec, just thought i would ask since they are both duratec's. if they are the same then all that would really need to be done would be for ford to release a 6 speed that fits that duratec, and then swap it over, dont know if it would be that easy thou

Yea um ok hen's tooth post. What's the point of posting about something that will not exist. No point in a 6 speed anyway. As posted it is a weaker tranny. Ppl must just want to say they have a six speed. The ones that would have the knowledge and $ to do it don't even want it.

No..the 4 cyl and the 6cyl duratec have nothing incommon besides the name.
EDIT: Terry Haines has imported the Six Speed Mondeo transmission for 2.5 and 3 liter applications. But you would have to contact him directly.

Don't bother. (An SVTF owner here..) Too much hassle. Some SVTF guys have considered removing it and replacing with an MTX-75!! 1st gear has the bigggest sprocket they could get into that thing. It's still relatively tall. (runs out at 40mph..) You can break the speed limit in 2nd.. Gears get closer once above that, and 6th is not an overdrive. Despite all this, 1st gear is lower and 6th is higher than a Mini-S... And the MAX input torque on it is rated at somewhere around 150Ft-Lbs. Need I say more? BTW: Requires a two-piece flywheel (tortional vibration dampener...)

I'm glad you came on and posted this. I also thought a six speed might be great, but I really learned that I don't need it at all. The five speed has pretty darn good ratios. Maybe a taller final drive with all this power I have, but that is it.

How much of the fender and why? Actually, does anyone else know how to install the ST220 gearbox? If so, maybe an in depth explanation please.

there is only one person who has bothered to figure out all of the details and he says that it is not very cost effective, meaning don't bother. i you really must know who he is its terry haines.

i tracked down that post i was thinking of. Originally posted by Terry Haines: we have done a package study and, with mods,it fits. The cost of the trans is high due to import/exchange rate/weak dollar....makes it an expensive conversion...

6th gear on highway = great gas mileage...I image in a V8 Camaro can get 28 mpg...CSVT's could get 30+
But as stated...its not cost effective (fuel savings VS. Cost of project) unless your just rich and want to do it for fun - which I would do...
